James L. Dolan is Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MSG Rangers Corp., which features the New York Rangers (NHL) franchise as well as a development league team, the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL), and a professional sports team performance center, the MSG Training Center.
In his role at MSG Rangers, Mr. Dolan guides the Company’s overall vision and the development of effective strategies to drive its business and maximize growth opportunities. He also serves as governor to the NHL on behalf of the Rangers.
Additionally, Mr. Dolan is Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MSG Knickerbockers Corp., which owns and operates the New York Knicks of the NBA and a development league team, the Westchester Knicks of the NBAGL.
Along with his roles at MSG Rangers and MSG Knicks, Mr. Dolan serves as Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MSG Entertainment Corp., a leader in live entertainment comprised of renowned venues and brands such as Madison Square Garden, home to the Rangers and Knicks; and Sphere Entertainment Co., a leader in immersive experiences, technology, and media, whose portfolio includes Sphere and MSG Networks, which telecasts a wide range of sports content, including exclusive live local games featuring the Rangers and Knicks. He is also Chairman of AMC Global Media, which owns and operates several award-winning brands in television and film.
Mr. Dolan was CEO of Cablevision Systems Corporation from 1995 until June 2016, when the media and telecommunications company, which served as MSG’s parent company until 2010, was sold to Altice. Prior to his role as Cablevision CEO, Mr. Dolan was CEO of Rainbow Media Holdings, the former Cablevision programming subsidiary now known as AMC Global Media. Mr. Dolan began his career with Cablevision in the 1970s and held a variety of executive positions before overseeing Rainbow Media.
Mr. Dolan supports the ongoing commitment of MSG Rangers, and the entire MSG Family of Companies to their communities, particularly through the Garden of Dreams Foundation, the non-profit organization that works closely with all four companies to assist young people in need. In addition, he is Vice Chairman Emeritus of the board of the Lustgarten Foundation, an organization he helped found in 1998, which today is the nation’s largest private supporter of pancreatic cancer research.
Mr. Dolan has six children and is an avid musician.
